Reports: C.J. Moore Commits To Virginia

Buford (GA) product C.J. Moore verbally committed to the University of Virginia last night, multiple outlets including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution have reported. Moore, a 5’10”, 165-pound cornerback prospect, becomes the 18th member of UVa’s 2012 recruiting class.

Moore has started at cornerback each of the past two seasons, earning AP second-team all-state selection in the AA classification last season as a junior (see video here). He totaled 48 solo tackles and picked off seven passes as Buford won the AA state championship in 2010, going 14-1 on the season. The Wolves have won four straight AA state titles heading into the 2011 season.

Moore is a 3-sport athlete at Buford. In addition to football, where he earned other FBS-level offers including Wake Forest and Memphis, Moore also excels in track, where he captured the AA state championship in the 100 meters this spring. His mother, Monica, ran track at UCLA along with his aunt, 3-time Olympic gold medalist Gail Devers. C.J.’s father played college football.

Moore’s speed and quickness could translate well to the offensive side of the ball, but cornerback is the likely destination on the next level. Norfolk Christian (Norfolk, VA) prospect Wil Wahee is likely to be slotted at cornerback as well, while Varina’s (VA) Maurice Canady is another potential corner in this class.
