Texas Cornerback Commits To Virginia

UVa has added another potential piece to the defensive backfield with its 23rd commitment of the 2012 class. Stratford (Houston, TX) cornerback prospect Kelvin Rainey verbally committed to the Hoos this afternoon, one day after returning from a weekend official visit in Charlottesville.

Rainey, who also had offers from Rice, SMU and Texas State, called ending his recruitment a “relief.” Asked what separated the Cavaliers, Rainey said simply, “The coaches were just good guys.”

Rainey’s official visit – his first ever experience at UVa – solidified his decision.

“I felt it in my gut, but it also got better and better throughout the weekend. As [the weekend] went on, I could really see myself there. I talked to the coaches. I had a chance to meet the freshman class,” said Rainey, who was hosted by freshman safety Mason Thomas .
