2013 Report: UVa Has Offered One From Lovejoy

The annual 7-on-7 tournament hosted by the University of Virginia is set for June 16, and Lovejoy (Hampton, GA) head coach Al Hughes has already penciled his team in for the event. Hughes, who guided the Wildcats to 14 victories this past season, figures to bring another talented squad to Charlottesville next summer.

“Fortunately for us, this probably will be the best upcoming senior class we’ve had in a while, and we’ve had some good ones,” said Hughes, whose team has competed at UVa’s 7-on-7 tourney for at least the past four years.

In terms of skill position guys, Coach Hughes rattled off a long list of rising seniors, some of which were in Charlottesville last June and will be returning again this year.

“Our quarterback, Alejandro Bennefield, is returning,” Hughes began. “He is 6’3”, 200 pounds. He’s a good one for us. We have one of the best running backs in the state. He might even be ranked nationally by now. His name is Travis Custis. He has come up (to Virginia) with us several times. He has broken all of Tashard Choice ‘s rushing records. Tashard played for Dallas and is now on the Buffalo Bills. Travis finished with over 1,900 yards and 28 touchdowns last year.
