Determined McClure On UVa’s Radar

6’3″, 307-pound offensive lineman Robert McClure grew up a fan of the University of Virginia. In addition to having seen “a bunch of games” as well as the 2012 Spring Game in person, he attended UVa’s football camp throughout high school, beginning his freshman year at James Monroe (Fredericksburg, VA). McClure, who is finishing up his first year at Lackawanna City College (Scranton, PA), was in Charlottesville once again this past Sunday, but this time he was attending an invite-only recruiting event as a potential prospect.

“I got to go behind the scenes. I had a blast,” McClure wrote in a Facebook interview.

Mike London and company didn’t host a large number of prospects last Sunday, something that may have been a positive. It allowed the recruits, including McClure, to get to know the coaches more closely. McClure came away with a positive feeling with respect to the coaching staff, and he enjoyed the day’s itinerary as well.

“We had a pretty full itinerary,” McClure recalled. “We arrived on campus at Scott Stadium and checked in. Then Coach London came in and talked to us for a while. After that we went to lunch in one of their cafeterias. From there we boarded buses and got an in-depth tour of the entire campus. We watched a lot of videos about the program and we were talked to by all the coaches, players and some of the academic staff. They took our height and weight and then I got some one-on-one time with coach Wachenheim. After that we got to go to the basketball game where UVA blew out GA Tech. The basketball game was an UNBELIEVABLE experience. I got a really good feel for the coaches and I had a great time.”
