Greg’s Grades & Trends: Oregon, VMI

Daquan Romero led the defense with 8 tackles vs. Oregon.

When I first looked at the final stat sheet and noticed that the Hoos had netted 19 first downs compared to Oregon’s 25 I was encouraged. That was until I looked at the play total and saw that Oregon ran only 69 offensive plays to Virginia’s 86. That means that 36% of Oregon’s plays went for a first down. Add to that Oregon’s unreal 9.4 yards per point average, a number that would have led the NCAA for the last decade, that my friends is real offensive efficiency.

Clearly this was a game where the caliber of the opponent demanded that the Cavaliers perform at maximum efficiency to have a chance to win. They did not. Credit much of that to Oregon but the home team shoulders much of the blame as well.
