Cavs Score Commitment At A Position Of Need

Tanner Cowley’s father played college football at Southern Connecticut. Cowley also had an uncle play at Holy Cross and a cousin play at Sacred Heart. Now Cowley, a 6’5”, 215-pound rising senior tight end/outside linebacker out of Manasquan (N.J.), knows where he will play his college football – the University of Virginia.

Cowley informed Cavalier head coach Mike London and primary recruiter Steve Fairchild of his decision this afternoon, two days after touring the Grounds for the first time ever.

“Virginia offered about a month ago,” said Cowley, who also considered offers from Rutgers, U-Conn and Buffalo, among others. “For three weeks straight, I heard about how great a school it is and how nice of a campus it has. That was everyone else’s perspective. Once I got on campus I realized all the comments I heard were true. Right then and there I was almost ready to commit on campus. I decided to go home, make sure my feelings were still the same after a day or two, and make sure my parents were okay with it.

“Last night, we were kind of just recapping the visit and that’s when I told them how I was feeling. They were both very supportive. They told me they thought this was the best decision for me.”
