Grant Polk will be a Virginia Cavalier. The 6’6”, 300-pound offensive tackle was caught off guard when Scott Wachenheim left his post as UVa’s offensive line coach for the VMI head coaching position, news that broke this past Sunday.

“To be honest I was a little freaked out when I first heard [the news about Wachenheim],” Polk said. “I was just worried because I leave for college in three weeks. Even if they got a new offensive line coach right away, I wouldn’t have time to build a relationship. Coach London and Coach Fairchild reassured me that they would bring in a coach who is just like them, with the same values and everything.”

Did the standout prospect consider other schools in the wake of Wachenheim’s departure?

“I was really just focused on Virginia,” Polk said. “At first I wanted to make my decision about Virginia before I checked in with any other schools. I decided to stay with Virginia.”
