Courtland DB/WR Nick Grant Discusses His Commitment To UVa

Given the fact that the 2014 season was Nick Grant’s first seeing significant playing time on the Courtland (Spotsylvania, VA) varsity football squad, being on the radar of major college football programs came as a bit of a surprise to the 6’2”, 180-pound junior. That turned out to be the case, though, following a junior campaign in which Grant earned first-team all-conference honors as a kick returner and second-team all-conference honors at wide receiver, defensive back and punt returner.

UVa started expressing serious interest this past January. Last Tuesday, head coach Mike London extended a scholarship offer to Grant, who verbally committed to the Hoos two days later. The Cavaliers now have seven commitments in the class of 2016.

“I had no idea they were going to offer,” Grant said. “When they did, I thought, ‘Why not commit?’”

Grant grew up following Virginia sports, but he was sold on the school and the football program during visits he made this year. He attended a Junior Day, a spring practice, the Spring Game, and made an unofficial visit. Those four experiences made it easy for Grant to accept the scholarship offer so soon after receiving it.
