William Fleming CB Darrius Bratton Commits To Virginia (Updated)

The University of Virginia football program has received a verbal commitment from Darrius Bratton, a 6’1″, 165-pound cornerback/wide receiver out of William Fleming High School in Roanoke, Virginia. Bratton will be the second William Fleming prospect to sign with Virginia in as many classes, joining wide receiver prospect Warren Craft, a class of 2015 recruit.

Like Craft, Bratton is a multisport athlete at Fleming. In addition to football, the standout rising senior plays basketball and baseball. He earned a scholarship offer for his football talents after impressing at one of Virginia’s camps earlier this month. UVa was the first school to offer, but Fleming head coach Bobby Martin indicated several other schools were expressing interest.

“Darrius went up to (Virginia) Tech last weekend and they liked what they saw. A couple of other schools talked to me about him. He was backing up Warren (Craft) at wide receiver last year, so he didn’t see the field a lot on offense. Marshall liked him, but they wanted to see him in person first,” Martin said.

“As far as him at cornerback, he did as good a job as anybody for us.”

It appears UVa is recruiting the standout athlete with 4.4-second speed in the 40 as a cornerback. Coach Martin, though, believes Bratton also has potential as a wide receiver on the major college level.

“He’s going to be one of our starting wide receivers. That’s what he did so well at UVa. He made a couple of really good catches,” Martin said of Bratton, who plans to return to UVa with some teammates for Virginia’s camp this Saturday, June 20. “If he has a great year at the X, I’m sure they will look at that. They need a corner, but they want somebody who can do more than one thing. They can then make a decision based on what they need when he gets there.”

Bratton told the Roanoke Times that the Virginia offer was “like a dream come true.”
