NBPA Top 100 Report: Catching Up With Matt Coleman

Class of 2017 point guard Matt Coleman has looked very sharp so far at the 2015 NBPA Top 100 Camp, which is being held at the John Paul Jones Arena this week. Coleman was outstanding in his first game at the Top 100, scoring 12 points (4-4 field goals including 1-1 from 3, and 3-3 on free throws) and dishing out four assists while committing just one turnover.

As most Virginia fans know by now, Coleman is a top target of head coach Tony Bennett, who offered a scholarship before the talented lefty ever played a high school basketball game. Two years later, UVa’s head man is still in hot pursuit of Coleman, who is transferring to Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) after two years at Maury High School (Norfolk, VA).

“Me and Tony Bennett and Jason Williford, we have a great relationship,” Coleman said. “I love [Bennett] as a friend, as a coach, and as a person also.”

June 15 was the first day college coaches could call class of 2017 recruits. Coleman’s phone certainly was busy that day, with Bennett being the first coach to get in touch. The 6’1” floor general relayed some of that conversation.
