The “Recruiting Week In Review” is a new feature that will include a look at how Virginia football recruits performed on the gridiron last week, a look back at last week’s recruiting news including links and tweets, and a look ahead to TheSabre.com’s planned recruiting coverage.
GRIDIRON STARS
– Darrius Bratton had three receptions for 87 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown catch, but Roanoke (VA) William Fleming (0-1) lost to Jefferson Forest, 64-14. Bratton is being recruited by Virginia as a cornerback; however, Fleming head coach Bobby Martin believes the standout prospect could have a breakout senior year at wide receiver.
– Spotsylvania (VA) Courtland (0-1) jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead over Massaponax but couldn’t hold it, surrendering 15 unanswered including the game-winning field goal in the fourth. Virginia-bound athlete Nick Grant had a 31-yard touchdown reception in the loss.
– Tailback Tre Harbison rushed 18 times for 152 yards and three scores (1, 73, 1) as Shelby (N.C.) Crest defeated Ashbrook, 44-28. Crest improves to 2-0 on the season.
– Ashburn (VA) Broad Run captured a season opening 28-7 victory over Potomac Falls last week. Spartans standout Chris Moore‘s 40-yard touchdown reception opened the scoring. Moore, a Virginia cornerback recruit, finished with two receptions for 50 yards in the win.

TWEETS & LINKS
In every “Review” feature, we will recap some of the notable links and tweets from the previous week. Here you go…
– The Cavalier football program hosted a number of recruits this past Saturday. Many of Virginia’s class of 2016 commitments and some of the Hoos’ top targets in the class of 2017 headlined the group. Class of 2016 commitment Ben Knutson traveled from Indiana for the day.
Had a great time on campus with the guys today! Can't wait to do great things here with all of #UVA20

Fredericksburg (VA) Chancellor defensive end Yetur Matos, a 6’4″, 235-pound junior, tweeted several pics from his day in Charlottesville. Click here for his tweet. Matos has a number of scholarship offers already, including one from UVa. He made the trek with fellow Chancellor junior wide receiver E.J. Jenkins, a 6’5″ prospect who impressed at camps this summer but is awaiting his first major FBS scholarship offer.
Fredericksburg (VA) Riverbend junior defensive end Tyjuan Garbutt also tweeted about being in Charlottesville this past Saturday. He was accompanied by UVa commit Nick Grant. Garbutt, a 6’4″, 220-pound prospect, boasts double-digit scholarship offers including one from Virginia.
– Virginia football commitment Aidan Howard did not play but was mentioned in this preseason preview article on Gateway football. In the piece, it was mentioned that the 6’4″ Howard has been selected to play in a postseason all-star game in Florida.
– Fellow commit Neru NShaka reportedly suffered a leg injury in last week’s week. According to this article, the severity of the injury is unknown.

THIS WEEK IN RECRUITING
Here is a preview of some of the recruiting coverage planned for this week…
– Shelby (N.C.) Crest tailback Tre Harbison has helped his team to a 2-0 start to the 2015 season. I hope to reach the future Cavalier for thoughts on his senior season, his commitment to Virginia, and more. I also hope to reach Norcross (GA) Wesleyan safety/linebacker Jordan Mack for thoughts on his team’s 2-0 start, his commitment to the Hoos, and more.
– Quarterback Sonny Abramson will be tossing passes to wide receiver Hasise Dubois at the University of Virginia next year. This coming Saturday, however, the two will be on opposite sides as Sparta (N.J.) Pope John XXIII takes on Wayne (N.J.) DePaul Catholic in what will be the regular season opener for both teams. We’ll catch up with both prospects for thoughts in the days after.
– Defensive ends Tyjuan Garbutt and Yetur Matos are two of the state of Virginia’s top prospects in the class of 2017. I plan to reach both players for their thoughts on last Saturday’s visit to UVa.
