Sabre TV: Brittany Ratcliffe On UVa’s Win Over Louisville

The No. 2 Virginia women’s soccer team (12-1-1, 6-1-0 ACC) defeated Louisville, 1-0, in an ACC match Thursday. Brianna Westrup scored the lone goal for the Cavaliers in her first career start; she is filling in for senior Emily Sonnett, who is with the US Women’s National Team this week.

“It was a tough game after being on the road for a while with some competitive games,” Virginia coach Steve Swanson said in a news release. “It was also tough because Louisville is an organized defensive team and was coming in with as much confidence as they’ve had all year considering the results they’ve gotten lately. We gutted it out and we did enough to win the game. There were some good performances from some young players tonight, so that was nice to see. Brianna played very well in the absence of Emily.”

Caroline Weaver caught up with Brittany Ratcliffe after the game to talk about the win and Westrup’s winning goal. The Cavaliers host No. 1 Florida State on Sunday in a rematch of last year’s National Championship game.
