Dual-Threat QB De’Vante Cross Has High Interest In UVA

Head coach Bronco Mendenhall is looking to add another quarterback in Virginia’s class of 2016. De’Vante Cross, a 6’2”, 195-pound dual-threat signal caller out of Parkland High School (Allentown, PA), is high on the wish list.

“[The UVA] coaches told me they looked at quarterbacks all over the country, ones who are dual-threat and run the Zone Read, and he is the number one guy on their list,” Parkland head coach Jim Morgans said of Cross, who was recently named by the Pennsylvania Football News as the 2015 4A Offensive Player of the Year after guiding Parkland to a 14-2 overall record and an appearance in the PIAA Class 4A state championship game.

After verbally committing to Boston College last October, Cross withdrew his pledge last month. He now has high interest in the Hoos. In fact, barring a change of heart, the chances are strong that the standout signal caller will commit to UVA once he makes his official visit the weekend of January 22-24.

“When he committed to Boston College, they wanted him as a defensive back or an athlete. They felt like they could plug him in at a skill position anywhere,” Morgans said. “Then the defensive coordinator there left. He wanted to play quarterback in the worst way and he has a bunch of offers to play as a quarterback, but he really likes Virginia. He’s from North Carolina. He wanted to be down in the south, a little closer. His mom lives in North Carolina.”
