Want to help some of the University of Virginia’s most visible students and tailgate at the same time? Notus Sports is making that possible this weekend.
Notus Sports and TheSabre.com have partnered to bring loyal Hoos and Sabre followers a pre-game tailgate at the Virginia Spring Football Festival on Saturday and Notus is donating the proceeds to Virginia Cheerleading.
The cheerleaders at UVA fundraise to pay for their uniforms, camp costs, and travel expenses and are not on athletic scholarships. Coach Kelley Haney said that the group is working on fundraising for new mascot costumes, uniforms, and gear right now, which carries a hefty price tag of approximately $20,000. So tailgating this weekend can help raise some money for the project. (Note: you can also donate to the cheerleading program – check out more info on the cheer program here – through the VAF.)
“Virginia Cheerleading has been an important part atmosphere and fan engagement experience at our tailgates since we started,” Notus President Glen Slosson, a UVA graduate, said. “Their enthusiasm, dedication, and love of the Hoos is evident and we are honored by their taking the time to visit with UVA fans, patiently taking photos, providing UVA spirit, and representing the University very well. Providing funding for the cheerleading program through TheSabre.com Spring Football Festival is our way of giving back to a group that is an integral part of the UVA sports experience.”
Tickets must be purchased in advance by Thursday, April 21. The tailgate begins at 1 p.m. (spring festival gates at the stadium open at 2 p.m. and the on-field football begins at 4 p.m.) and includes food and beverage, tented location, great prize giveaways (including EDGE subscriptions and an 8×10 Tony Bennett photo from the ACC Tournament Championship), visits by special guests, tables, chairs, etc. Sabre Editor Kris Wright will lead the Hoos in his own rap version of The Good Ole Song! OK, not really on that last part, but it will be a blast.
