Virginia Football Gains Commitment From 3-Star Defensive Tackle Jordan Redmond

Virginia football has another promising defensive line prospect in the pipeline.

Jordan Redmond, a 6’2”, 285-pound defensive tackle out of Osceola High School (Kissimmee, FL), has announced his verbal commitment to the Cavaliers. The 247Sports Composite and Rivals.com 3-star recruit gives the Hoos 19 commits in the class of 2018.

“After much praying and discussion with my family and coaches I have officially decided to commit to the University of Virginia,” Redmond wrote in this tweet. “I am extremely grateful and humbled to be in this position. I also would like to thank all of the schools that recruited me and gave me a scholarship.”

Redmond claimed over 20 FBS-level scholarship offers. On July 30, 2017 he narrowed his list to 10 schools: Duke, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, NC State, Texas Tech, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin. The standout lineman made an official visit to UVA this past weekend before coming to his decision.

Cavalier coach Bronco Mendenhall mentioned nose tackle as a position he fell short of filling last year’s 2017 Class. That shouldn’t be the case in this year’s group, as Redmond and Hawaii standout Samson Reed project to play the nose. Virginia signed four defensive linemen in total in last year’s class, and two — Mandy Alonso and John Kirven — have seen playing time this season. However, none of the four are sure-fire nose tackles in Coach Mendenhall’s 3-4 defense.

Of the 19 commits in this class, five hail from the state of Florida.
