Some Virginia football roster news to report. To start, junior cornerback Juan Thornhill announced he will not test the NFL Draft waters and will instead return to Charlottesville for his senior year. Thornhill, a starter each of the past two seasons, is expected to be one of the leaders of Virginia defense in the 2018 season.

“Having to decide whether to return for my senior season or to go to the NFL was an easy decision for me,” Thornhill wrote in this tweet. “The NFL will be there after next season and I will focus on that when the time comes, but until then I have unfinished business with my brothers. #AH #NewStandard”

Thornhill’s decision is not surprising. In December, he tweeted, “I will be an All-American next year have to make it.”

While Thornhill will return, redshirt sophomore linebacker Jahvoni Simmons has decided to move on. A highly regarded recruit out of Ocean Lakes High School (Virginia Beach, VA), Simmons played in only six games in two seasons following a redshirt year. He’ll exit this spring as a UVA graduate.
