Catching Up With UVA Incoming Freshman Point Guard Kihei Clark

Kihei Clark won’t wow anyone with his physical stature when he arrives on Grounds on June 18 for the beginning of his career at the University of Virginia. But Clark, a point guard prospect out of California, is just fine with letting his game do the talking, just as he has done the past three years at Taft Charter (Woodland Hills, CA).

Recalling his first experience with the soon-to-be Cavalier, Taft Charter head coach Derrick Taylor said the following in an earlier interview with TheSabre.com: “I had heard about him. I said, ‘This little bitty guy?’ He looked like a baby. He was a God-send. We had some talent left behind, but as a sophomore he was our most valuable guy. He got 30 minutes a game as a sophomore. When I took him out, all heck would break loose. He was the glue. He had 22 assists in one game as a sophomore, which broke a school record.”

Clark followed up an impressive sophomore campaign by averaging 18 points and 7.5 assists per game his junior season. Thirty games into his senior season, the 5’9”, 165-pound prospect was averaging 21.3 points, 8.3 assists and 5.8 rebounds. He would lead the Toreadors to a 27-10 record in 2017/2018, earning Los Angeles Daily News All-Area 1st Team honors.
