The commitments keep rolling in for the Virginia football program, which now boasts 11 pledges in the class of 2019 after landing cornerback prospect Fentrell Cypress. The Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.) speedster is UVA’s second commitment on Tuesday (June 19) and the fourth within a 7-day span.
Considered one of the top rising senior prospects in the Palmetto State, the 6’0”, 170-pound Cypress chose Virginia over scholarship offers from Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Syracuse, among others. Rivals ranks him as a 3-star recruit and the No. 8 rising senior in South Carolina. 247Sports ranks him as a 3-star, the No. 111 cornerback in his class nationally, and the No. 17 overall rising senior in South Carolina. Additionally, SCVarsity.com ranks Cypress as the No. 12 prospect in South Carolina.
Virginia’s scholarship offer came on June 18, following the Cavaliers’ Mid-Atlantic camp. Cypress announced his commitment Tuesday evening.

Cypress adds more speed to Virginia’s 2019 Class. According to Athletic.net, the Northwestern standout athlete is the reigning Region 4-AAAAA champion in the 100 meters. Cypress posted a personal-best 10.7-second 100 meters in the Class AAAAA state championship meet, good for fourth place in that event.
On the gridiron, Cypress helped Northwestern to a 9-2 record in 2016 and a 7-5 mark in 2017. He plays cornerback and wide receiver for the Trojans.
