Jack Camper, a 6’5″, 250-pound defensive end out of Michigan State, is transferring to the University of Virginia.
On Saturday (January 15), the graduate transfer prospect posted on Instagram and Twitter, “I want to thank God and [Virginia head coach Tony Elliott] for the opportunity to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Virginia. #GoHoos.”
Camper has since confirmed to The Sabre that he is committed and is “all in with UVA.” He will begin classes on Grounds this Wednesday, January 19, which is the beginning of the Spring Semester. Camper has one year of eligibility remaining.
Camper is a native of Virginia Beach (VA) who graduated IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL) before enrolling at Michigan State in January of 2017. Camper played in 27 games with the Spartans, totaling 29 tackles including 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack. Recruited initially as a tight end, he moved to the defensive line near the end of his true freshman season in 2017.
According to this report by MLive.com, Camper battled injuries in his Michigan State career. As a redshirt senior in 2021, Camper played in only the first two games of the season.
Virginia has been looking to address the defensive line this offseason. The Hoos lost two defensive line verbal commitments when Bronco Mendenhall resigned, lost sophomore defensive end Nusi Malani (Washington State) and junior nose tackle Jordan Redmond (unknown) to transfer, and Mandy Alonso and Adeeb Atariwa to eligibility. Junior Aaron Faumui, who has three years of experience and would be a projected starter should he return, has entered the transfer portal.
Camper provides depth, maturity and experience to a unit that needs all three.

In other UVA transfer news, West Weeks has announced his commitment to LSU. The talented true freshman linebacker worked his way into a significant role on UVA’s defense this past season. He was not expected to return to Charlottesville, but now it’s official with his pledge.
