Ishan Sharma, 2024 Guard, Commits To Virginia Basketball

The Virginia men’s basketball team added another strong piece to its 2024 recruiting class on Thursday night. Fort Erie International Academy shooting guard Ishan Sharma made the call for the Cavaliers just days after a visit to Grounds.

The Canadian prospect chose the Wahoos over offers from Harvard, Seton Hall, Rice, Indiana State, Arizona State, and many more. Sharma’s recruitment had started to skyrocket this summer after a strong showing in the AAU ranks.

He announced his choice on social media.

Sharma brings a sharp-shooting skillset into the fold, a targeted need for this cycle. He averaged 16.6 points per game on 44.4% shooting from 3-point range at the Peach Jam event on the Nike EYBL circuit. At the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup, he scored 10.7 points per game on 40.9% shooting from 3. If the shooting stats aren’t enough, 247Sports’ analyst Travis Branham said he has a “high level skill” from 3-point range while Joe Moussa, Head of Scouting for North Pole Hoops, classified Sharma as “the best shooter in the country” of Canada for 2024. Edilson Silva of Canada’s Basketball Buzz called him “the best pure shooter in Canada” too.

With that in mind, the Cavaliers brought the 6’4″ guard to town for an official visit last weekend during the Blue-White Scrimmage. He left Charlottesville with an offer and announced for UVA just days later. That is similar to the fast recruiting of another 2024 Hoo commit, Jacob Cofie. The power forward out of Washington state committed just two months after receiving a Virginia offer and just days after an official visit with the program.

Those two make up a strong recruiting cycle for the Cavaliers. Cofie received a 4-star ranking from 247 as the No. 16 power forward in the class. Sharma is a 3-star recruit and the No. 31 shooting guard currently per 247, but as noted above his stock has been rising fast. Add in Christian Bliss, who reclassified to enroll this semester at UVA for a redshirt year, and it is a great trio to set the table for the future. Bliss carried a 3-star rating as well as the No. 20 combo guard in his class.
