Tony Bennett Provides De’Andre Hunter Update

Virginia basketball fans grew concerned when redshirt freshman De’Andre Hunter limped off the court Saturday during the team’s win at Duke. He did not return to the game.

During the ACC teleconference on Monday, UVA coach Tony Bennett provided a status update on the forward. He received treatments for an ankle sprain on Sunday.

“We’ll see,” Bennett said. “We’ll hold him from practice [Monday] and be day to day with it.”

The Cavaliers host Louisville on Wednesday night at the John Paul Jones Arena at 7 p.m. That game pits the top two teams in the ACC standings and will be televised by ESPN2. The Wahoos also have a rematch with Syracuse this week on the road. They got past the Orange 68-61 in Charlottesville.

Hunter, of course, has been a key piece of the team’s 9-0 start in ACC play to date. He’s scored in double figures in six of the nine league games, including a 12-point showing against the Blue Devils on Saturday. He tallied 15 points in the aforementioned Cuse contest. Hunter has also seen an uptick in his rebounding numbers of late. He’s posted four rebounds or more in five straight games and in seven of nine ACC games overall.
