The Virginia basketball program received big news this week when star guard Reece Beekman decided to return to school. Beekman had entered the NBA Draft and received positive feedback at the NBA Draft Combine, but withdrew from the pool on Wednesday just ahead of the NCAA deadline.
Beekman’s return is a major boost for the Hoos. He earned third-team All-ACC honors last season and was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. UVA claimed a share of the ACC Regular Season Championship and advanced to the ACC Tournament title game. Beekman also ranked first in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.4 with 5.3 assists against 1.6 turnovers. That marked the second straight year that he led the ACC in that category. He finished third in assists per game and will be the conference’s leading returnee there with Wake Forest’s Tyree Appleby and UVA’s Kihei Clark completing their college careers.
Luke Neer at The Best Seat in the House welcomed TheSabre.com Editor Kris Wright to discuss the big news and what that might look like for the Wahoos this coming season.
