TheSabre.com Fan Friday: Reece Beekman Rises To Top

Join UVA Fans In DC for the Men’s ACC Tournament

When the Virginia men’s basketball team celebrates its seniors on Saturday night, the honorees will include a program record holder. That’s because Reece Beekman took over the No. 1 spot for career steals last week.

Beekman now has 223 steals in his career as he moved past Othell Wilson for the top spot. In the days of increased eligibility due to the pandemic, what’s really impressive is that Beekman reached the milestone in fewer games that Wilson. Beekman needed 122 career games to get to 223, while Wilson set the record back from 1981-1984 in 127 games.

Of note, Beekman is also near his own single-season steals record as well. He had 73 steals in the 2021-2022 season for the top spot there and he also had 57 steals in 2022-2023 for another spot in the top 7. This season’s 63 steals to date are No. 3 on that list.

Here are the top 5 steal artists in Virginia history:

  • Reece Beekman 223+
  • Othell Wilson 222
  • Sean Singletary 200
  • Chris Williams 189
  • Jeff Jones 189

Check out a few blast videos from the top 3 below. And hop into this thread on the message board to share any memories you have of the top 5 on the list.
