Chase Morrison, 2024 Edge, Commits To Virginia Football

For the third time in three days, the Virginia football team picked up a recruiting commitment. This time, UVA dipped into familiar territory in Georgia with Roswell High School’s Chase Morrison deciding to join the Hoos.

Morrison announced his decision on social media.

After the 2024 recruiting class started with a trio of in-state commits – Ethan Minter (Virginia), John Rogers (Virginia), and Benjamin York (Virginia – this week’s streak features three out-of-state pick-ups. Morrison joins Grant Ellinger (Illinois) and Christian Zachary as this week’s commitments.

Even so, Morrison comes from a familiar recruiting territory for the Hoos. There are currently 12 Georgia players on the roster, including junior offensive tackle Charlie Patterson that also played at Roswell. Blessed Trinity, who played Roswell this season, brought current UVA offensive lineman Ty Furnish and linebacker Ryan Attaway to the Cavaliers.

Morrison selected Virginia over offers from Duke, Wake Forest, JMU, East Carolina, Air Force, and others. He had been on unofficial visits to Duke and Wake, but also made two visits to UVA. That included an official visit this past weekend, which sealed his decision. 247 Sports rates Morrison as a 3-star recruit and the No. 114 prospect in the state of Georgia.

Through three years at Roswell, Morrison has been productive as a defender. He has 224 career tackles with 174 of the solo variety. Last season, he produced 19 tackles for loss on a team that went 11-2 in Georgia’s 6A division. That included 11 sacks and he had 10 more quarterback hurries as well.

Virginia certainly hopes some of that disruptive ability translates to the college level. At 6’5” and 240 pounds, Morrison projects to the Edge rusher position in defensive coordinator John Rudzinski’s scheme. He lists a 4.7 40-yard dash time on his Hudl profile.
