Virginia Football Kickoff Times Announced For Five Games

The Virginia football team released kickoff times for nearly half its schedule on Wednesday. That included the first four games of the season, allowing UVA fans to plan out almost the entire month of September.

The Cavaliers open the season in Nashville against Tennessee on Saturday, Sept. 2. That game will kick off at Noon ET and be broadcast by ABC. The Volunteers finished 11-2 last season with a win against Clemson in the Orange Bowl to cap off the campaign. This is the first meeting between UVA and UT since the 1991 Sugar Bowl.

Virginia plays its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 9 against JMU. That contest is also set for a Noon kickoff and will be carried by ESPNU. The Dukes posted an 8-3 record last season as they moved into the Sun Belt Conference. The Hoos haven’t played James Madison since 1983.

Beyond those two opponents to open the season, the times for three games not scheduled for Saturdays also were released. UVA faces Maryland and NC State on Fridays, while it also has a Thursday game with Louisville. All three of those games were announced as night games.

The Hoos travel to Maryland on Friday, Sept. 15. That game kicks off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast by FS1. This renews the long-time border rivalry between the teams when both played in the ACC. The two have not faced one another since 2013, the last year for the Terps in the ACC.

One week later, Virginia opens ACC play on Friday, Sept. 22 when NC State comes to Charlottesville. That game will air on ESPN with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff time. The two teams have played just four times since 2007, but with the ACC scrapping divisions in football this begins the new 3-3-5 scheduling model that will pit conference foes against each other more often.

Those four game times mean that only the Boston College game on Saturday, Sept. 30 does not have a kickoff time currently for the games in September. The times and TV network selections for that game and others will be announced using a 12-day advanced notice or a 6-day flex selection notice.

The one exception for Virginia’s remaining schedule is a Thursday, Nov. 9 game at Louisville. That game was set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN. The Hoos and Cardinals played yearly as divisional crossover opponents from 2014 to 2022.
