TheSabre.com Fan Friday: Clemson Watch Party!

JOIN UVA CLUB OF BOSTON FOR GAMES IN BEAN TOWN! – Women – FEB. 8 | Men – FEB. 28

The Virginia men’s basketball team didn’t get off to the best start in conference play as it dropped three out of four games in a stretch around the start of the year. That left UVA at 2-3 in the standings.

The Hoos have since responded, however, with a 5-game winning streak. That included a pair of double-digit victories against Louisville (69-52) and Notre Dame (65-53) most recently. With a 7-3 record at the halfway point in the 20-game league schedule, the Cavaliers currently sit third in the ACC standings.

Another Saturday road test awaits – this is the sixth straight weekend road game of the Wahoos – at Clemson. The Tigers enter this game at 4-5 in the ACC so they want to make up some ground, while Virginia needs NCAA Tournament resume wins in addition to its positioning in the conference standings. That makes this an important matchup for both teams.

The game features multiple long-time ACC contributors on both sides. For UVA, Reece Beekman obviously fits the bill as the reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the current assists and steals leader in the conference. For Clemson, PJ Hall remains a key part of the puzzle – he ranks second in the ACC in scoring at 19.9 points per game and 10th in rebounding at 7.1 boards per game. Joseph Girard III, who initially made waves at Syracuse, transferred over and averages 14.8 points per game (14th in the ACC) while shooting 92.9% from the free throw line (1st in the ACC) and 41.2% from 3-point range (4th in the ACC).

With a big road game on deck, The Sabre is excited to host another Game Watch party at Devils Backbone Backyard at 1000 W Main Street in Charlottesville! DB offers the following Game Day specials: $4.50 pints from an hour before tipoff to an hour after the game ends, 10% off food for guests wearing UVA gear, and 25% off DB merch if UVA wins.

The Sabre along with the Preferred Walk-Ons Podcast hosts will provide live commentary and interaction throughout the game. Plus, we’ve invited Virginia legend Travis Watson to make an appearance. We appreciated all the fans that came out for the first Watch Party and it should be a fun time again.
