6-3, 205-pound wide receiver/safety Brandon Woods played well on defense and had 2 catches for 22 yards on offense, helping Southern Durham (NC) defeat a tough Ragsdale team 48-41 in the 2nd round of the state AAA playoffs last Friday. Woods says his team’s will to win was the primary reason they came away with the victory.
“It was a good game,” Woods said. “We played hard and we played as a team. Our seniors really stepped it up. We really wanted the win.”
Woods feels that he has had a solid senior season. He is a playmaker on both sides of the ball, but feels like he has improved the most on offense – which is where he projects on the next level.
“I think I’ve had a good season,” Woods said. “I’ve overcome a lot of adversity with nagging injuries and I’ve done good. On defense I’ve made a lot of plays and I’ve made a lot of plays on offense. As a receiver, I’ve improved my speed, awareness, strength and I’ve learned to go after the ball better.”
