Nelson County High School star B.J. Cabbell was the eighth player to commit to the University of Virginia in the 2006 recruiting class. A starter since his freshman year, Cabbell mans an offensive guard position for head coach Tim Crawford. Very athletic for his size, Cabbell also plays basketball and participates in track.

“You have a 6-5, 297-pound kid who can move pretty doggone well,” Crawford said of Cabbell, who earned first-team all-district honors last season as a junior. Cabbell will likely play guard on the next level. “He has about a 72-inch wing span. The only things he says are ‘yes, sir’, ‘no, sir’ and ‘what can I do next.’ He’s a coach’s dream. I don’t think he’s one of the strongest kids right now. I think he can bench press about 280 or 290 pounds right now. He’s not the strongest kid on the block, but he will be once he concentrates on football.”

Cabbell performed very well at UVa’s summer camp last month and earned an offer shortly thereafter. He committed that same day.
