Recent Commitments and Future Decision Dates…
Westmont Hilltop (Johnstown, PA) athlete Brad Kanuch picked U-Conn over Maryland and Virginia. In the end, I think U-Conn just recruited him the hardest and he felt he could make a contribution quicker for the Huskies. He told me he had a good feeling about U-Conn ever since his official visit there last month.
LB Jarrell Miller will announce his decision on Saturday during the Army All-American Bowl game. The game will be televised by NBC and begins at noon. Jarrell is the only UVa target scheduled to announce this weekend.
UVa has 20 commitments right now. Of those commits, Indian River (Chesapeake, VA) cornerback DeAndre Filer has already said he will go to prep school while Orange (VA) nose guard/defensive tackle Asa Chapman is likely to have to take the prep route as well. That would leave UVa with about seven spots to fill in order to reach 25 for the class, although there are others, including 4-star quarterback O.C. Wardlow , who have some work to do to qualify as well.
Eight of the 20 commitments are projected initially on offense. This includes AP Group AAA State Player of the Year Keith Payne , who is being recruited initially as a tailback. Twelve are projected on defense, including at least five linebackers and four defensive back recruits.
