Simply put, UVa’s 2007 class is one of the best of the Al Groh era, and kudos to the staff for putting together and keeping together this caliber a class in the face of coaching turnover as well as a disappointing 2006 season. Rated the number 25 overall class in the country by, Virginia’s class consists of seven 4-star recruits including four from the state of Virginia. UVa head coach Al Groh and staff landed top talents from out-of-state and really enhanced the athleticism of the team.

“It has got so many of the qualities we like,” UVa head coach Al Groh said of the 2007 class. “It has got the athletic ability, the versatility. It has got a high level of competitive toughness about it. It’s very solid academically. All of those things add up to a lot of guys with an achievement oriented mindset…a lot of can-do people.”

In total, 24 prospects signed with the University of Virginia yesterday. The position break-down according to looks like this: 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 RB/DB, 1 WR, 5 WR/DB, 1 TE, 1 TE/DE, 3 OL, 3 OL/DL, 1 DL, 3 LB, 1 DB, 1 LS and 1 PK. Coach Groh is happy with the way this class turned out from top to bottom.

“I don’t really relate it too much to any particular ratings because we really pay limited attention to those things. The only ratings that count are the ones that we put on our board and obviously every player that we take, we see a real purpose for them,” Groh said. “In our eyes, they’re all beautiful and they all have a very high rating and a real purpose for why we brought them in here.”

Yesterday, I was asked on several occasions if there was one thing that stood out about this class. Actually, a couple of things stand out. The talent UVa has brought in at the skill positions – from QB Peter Lalich , who is one of the most highly regarded quarterback
