UVa does not go to Wisconsin too often for a football recruit, but the Cavaliers extended a scholarship offer recently to one of the top junior prospects in the state. Tyler Westphal , a 6-6, 230-pound prospect out of Menasha High School, was offered by the ‘Hoos two days ago and is excited about it.
“He is very, very impressed with the interest from UVa,” said Menasha head coach Brad Westphal, who is Tyler’s father. “In fact, we’re heading out there on the 24th of February for a junior day to meet with Coach Groh and his staff. Tyler is excited and looking forward to it. He has built a pretty good relationship with the guys over the phone and through text messages. He really likes the staff.”
Al Groh and company recruiting the state of Wisconsin is a rarity, and Coach Westphal isn’t even sure how they became interested in his son.
