Tate Headlines DeMatha’s Talented Class

DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) head coach Bill McGregor has a group of rising seniors certainly capable of continuing the success his team enjoyed this past season. From a team that went 12-0, finished #1 in the DC area and 10th in the country, and captured the WCAC Championship, McGregor returns eight offensive starters and seven defensive starters.

“We had a real good senior class, but we have a real good junior class coming up,” said McGregor. “We only trailed in one ball game. We had good team chemistry. We played well together. All three fascets worked pretty well towards our advantage.”

Leading DeMatha’s 2008 class is 6-4, 215-pound Kenny Tate . Tate, considered one of the top recruits in the country in the 2008 class, is a do-everything player for the Stags (though he primarily played wide receiver this past season).

“He was our go-to-guy this year and the latter part of last year,” McGregor said. “He’s just so versatile. He’s about 6-3 or 6-4, 215 pounds. He has played wide receiver, running back, cornerback, safety, and he returns kick and punts. He is the type of player who has the ability to score every time he touches the ball.”
