Linebacker John Bivens , who signed with Virginia in 2006, was considered by many to be the sleeper of the recruiting class. After all, he did not play football his junior year of high school and many observers thought he would go the baseball route as Major League scouts expressed high interest in his diamond skills. When he went undrafted, however, Bivens decided to head to UVa for football.
Cavalier fans are glad he did. Bivens has helped upgrade the speed factor for the linebacking corps and he has a nose for the football. That’s something that was noticeable even last season when Bivens spent his time on the scout team as a redshirt.
