Scaglione, Hoos Defy Baseball Gods

John Scaglione’s 13th inning hit brought in the go-ahead run.

ESPN 840’s Wes McElroy said it best – the baseball gods were not smiling on Virginia Saturday night. But after going through what must seemed the trials of Job, the gods blessed the Hoos with a win and their first 2-0 start in an NCAA Regional under Brian O’Connor. But it required much sacrifice as the Cavaliers lost two of its pivotal players.

“Victory is always good but tonight it came with a price,” said O’Connor. “I’ve never been in a position as a coach where I’ve had this much adversity. But this team has battled all year long and handled the adversity.”
