The University of Virginia has landed a verbal commitment from 5-10, 180-pound wide receiver Rodney McLeod , a top prospect out of DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD), one of the most prestigious high school football programs in the state of Maryland. McLeod, who chose UVa over seven other Division 1A offers including Maryland and Virginia Tech, committed to the coaching staff yesterday afternoon towards the end of the Elite Junior Day.
“It was a spur of the moment kind of thing,” McLeod said of his commitment. “I didn’t even plan on committing. I just really liked it. Something just told me to do it. My mom came with me. Towards the end of the day, we were just sitting there and I told her I had a lot of interest in the school since I had been there. I told her I wanted to commit. She said if I wanted to then it was no problem with her because it is a good school. I told Coach London and that was it.”
McLeod had planned on making unofficial visits to other programs in July, but says now that he likely will not make the trips. He called Virginia the “perfect” place for him.
