The University of Virginia has picked up commitment #12 for the 2008 football recruiting class, but it is a prospect who could end up playing basketball as well. 6-4, 220-pound Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) star S/LB Cameron Johnson committed to Virginia today over claimed offers from Duke, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland and Pitt.
“I committed to UVa,” Johnson said. “I just liked the academics and it is a good football program. My mom visited there recently and I was just waiting for her approval before committing.”
Virginia, led by primary recruiter Mike London, impressed Johnson during last month’s Elite Junior Day. Johnson is the fifth prospect to commit to the ‘Hoos as a result of that day, joining Connecticut RB Torrey Mack , Maryland CB/WR Rodney McLeod , New Jersey S/LB Ausar Walcott and Maryland DB Devin Wallace .
