Rising senior center John Brandenburg , a 4-star recruit out of DeSmet Jesuit School in St. Louis, Missouri, has narrowed his list of schools to two. The 6-11 prospect plans to visit each of his two finalists one more time before making a decision, which will likely come in September.
“I’ve really narrowed it down to my top two schools – Stanford and Virginia,” Brandenburg said this afternoon. “I’m going to visit Stanford on August 9th. I’m going to Virginia the weekend after Labor Day [for an official visit]. They play Duke in football that weekend. After that, I’m going to make my decision.”
Brandenburg is pleased to have narrowed his list and looks forward to making a decision in the near future.
“It was pretty difficult,” Brandenburg said of his recruiting process. “When you first get recruited, so many schools are coming at you. You develop relationships with so many coaches. With these two schools, I feel I have developed good relationships with the head coaches and the assistant coaches. Both schools are academically sound. I feel these two are really great schools for me.”
After averaging 11 points per game as a sophomore, Brandenburg suffered through an injury-laden junior season. He is now healthy and looking forward to a productive senior campaign. He is looking for playing time his freshman year at whatever school he chooses, and Stanford and Virginia have offered it.
“Both schools have said that I would definitely get some playing time as a freshman,” Brandenburg said. “They haven’t said I would start or anything, but I would get playing time. That is really appealing to me. I wouldn’t be interested in red-shirting.
