Like every other Division 1A football recruit in the country, Gateway (Monroeville, PA) 5-star linebacker Shayne Hale could begin receiving phone calls from college recruiters on Saturday, September 1st. The 6-3, 220-pound blue-chipper received two calls that day with one coming from UVa head coach Al Groh.
“I’ve really only talked to two schools so far,” Hale said. “I’ve spoken with the coach from Virginia and the West Virginia coach so far. I talked to Al Groh on the way to our game on Saturday night. I talked to the West Virginia coach [last evening].
“Coach Groh just called and told me a little bit about their game. He was telling me good luck and everything. He also said he would keep in touch. We didn’t talk too long because I was going to my game.”
