The University of Virginia men’s basketball program keeps on rolling in this 2008 recruiting class. After landing commitments from 4-star guard Sylven Landesberg and 4-star center John Brandenburg within the past two months, head coach Dave Leitao and company added another promising 2008 class recruit earlier today.

Virginia’s latest verbal commitment comes from 7-0, 230-pound center Assane Sene . Sene, a native of Senegal, attends South Kent School (CT) and chose Virginia over offers from Connecticut and Syracuse.

“Assane is going to Virginia,” South Kent head coach Raphael Chillious said this afternoon.

Prior to making his verbal commitment, Sene had made official visits to all three of the aforementioned programs. In the end, his relationship with Coach Leitao and assistant coach Bill Courtney made the difference in favor of Virginia.

Sene visited Virginia on three occasions – for the NBPA Top 100 Camp, UVa’s Elite Camp and the official visit last month.

“The biggest thing for Virginia, because all three programs are great schools and great basketball programs, was that over the past seven months he has developed a great relationship with Coach Leitao and Coach Courtney that is similar to the relationships he has here,” Chillious said. “And a few weeks ago, when he had hurt his neck, Coach Leitao was there and Assane said he could really tell that Coach Leitao cared. I think that gave Assane further respect for him.

“Also, UVa has a great business school. Assane wants to major in International Business, so that was a big factor for him. Then there is the other obvious draw – he wants to be one of the guys that helps in
