Freshmen Discuss the UVa Experience

Virginia’s 2007 men’s basketball recruiting class consisted of four recruits, including three guards and one forward. Just several days until their first ever regular season game as members of the Virginia Cavaliers, freshmen Mustapha Farrakhan , Jeff Jones , Mike Scott and Sammy Zeglinski took some time to discuss their college experiences, their freshmen seasons, Dave Leitao, the John Paul Jones Arena and much more.

Current injuries…

“I’m feeling ok. I’ve got just a little tendonitis, but its fine.”

The college experience…

“It’s been fun. It is definitely new from high school. The pace is much faster. There is a lot you need to learn in a short amount of time, so you can’t goof off. You’ve got to be ready.”

Choosing to sign with UVa over home-state Illinois…

“It was tough. It was real tough because it was the home school, but I liked the ACC and I had a better vibe with the Virginia coaches so that pretty much made my decision.”

The Virginia coaches…

“They help me better myself as an individual and on the court, so I made a good choice.”

The toughest part about the recruiting process…

“Just splitting it down and the phone calls. It kind of got stressful because every school sounds good. I just had to pray on it and go with my family. They helped me make the right decision.”

His relationship with his family…

“I’m very close with my family. They are a big part of my life. I talk to my dad about four times a day. I text my mom everyday, so we’re a close-knit family. I’m pretty
