Throughout the spring practice period, Virginia coach Al Groh brought up special teams. He referenced on several occasions how the play on special teams can change the game’s final score. Groh said it was “significant” that Virginia Tech and Boston College, the two teams that have appeared in the last two ACC Championship Games, have excelled at special teams. He called upgrading the special teams’ performance a priority.
Clearly, Groh is hoping for a reversal of fortunes with new special teams coordinator Ron Prince at the helm.
