UVa is in solid shape with Ohio outside linebacker prospect Marcus Rush , has offered another top Virginia Beach prospect and will check out its lone 2010 class recruit this week. Check out “Notes” for these stories and more.

UVa a top contender for Rush…

With recent offers from Boston College, Purdue and Vanderbilt, Moeller (Cincinnati, OH) outside linebacker/defensive end Marcus Rush now boasts 12 official Division 1A offers in total. Virginia was the second program to offer the 6-3, 225-pound rising senior and is very much in contention.

So far, Rush has taken unofficial visits to Cincinnati, Indiana, Michigan and Virginia. He especially enjoyed the latter two visits.

“Michigan and Virginia will be for sure one of my top picks [when he narrows his list of schools],” said Rush, who has been offered by both programs. “I like the coaches. I love both campuses. They are beautiful. Both football programs are top notch and the academics are, too. The coaches, campuses and academics are great.”

Rush further compared Michigan and UVa.

“I think the fact that Michigan is closer to home may be more attractive, but I really liked Virginia’s tradition and the history behind the school,” he said. “It is a matter of deciding how far I want to go. There are positives and negatives with both.”

The big-time prospect, who is about to conclude his junior year, plans to visit Michigan for the Barbecue at the Big House. He will visit Virginia as well. No visit date has been set to Virginia, but Rush says it could come sometime soon. Two other summer visits Rush knows he will make include Boston College and Vanderbilt.

Rush hopes to narrow his list soon and plans on making a commitment before the start of his senior year.

“Right now I’m trying to narrow things down,” Rush said. “It’s going to be kind of hard because other schools are still offering and stuff and making me second guess if I want to commit early. I haven’t changed my mind. I’m definitely going to commit early.”

Florida, Iowa and Miami (Fl) are among the other programs expressing serious interest in Rush, who is being recruited by some schools as a linebacker and others as a defensive end. Michigan and Virginia are recruiting the Moeller product as an outside linebacker/defensive end hybrid.
