2011 Class: Thourogood Guides Ocean Lakes

Lafonte Thourogood ‘s recruiting card

The 2008 season was Lafonte Thourogood ‘s first as starting quarterback for Ocean Lakes High School’s (Virginia Beach, VA) varsity football squad. Just a sophomore, the 6-2 prospect did well at signal caller, helping the Dolphins to an undefeated regular season and an appearance in the Division 6 Eastern Region championship game. Last year’s experience propelled Thourogood, who worked hard this offseason and now feels – and plays – like a more confident quarterback.

“Last year helped me out a lot,” Thourogood said. “I wasn’t used to playing high school quarterback before then. I played other positions my freshman year. Staying in the pocket was one of the biggest things. I had to learn to be a pocket quarterback. I got used to it. This year I can hang in the pocket and I’m used to being in rhythm and I’m used to the speed of the game. If I didn’t play last year, it would be harder this year.”

Ocean Lakes is now 5-0 this year after a dominating win over First Colonial. Thourogood, who has thrown for 443 yards and rushed for 379 yards through five games, says the team is confident and focused.
