In the first season of new Virginia coach Tony Bennett’s tenure, he is spending plenty of time on installing an offensive system and the principles the Pack-Line defense. The focus remains on playing strong defense and soundness with the basketball, two things Bennett says are the key part of a foundation for his players.
But, Bennett also made his players a promise about his offense – one that, after two years of offensive confusion under former Virginia coach Dave Leitao, was music to the ears of shooters who have struggled to find their shots.
“When [the coaching staff] first got here, the first thing they tried to get us to understand is that the system that he’s trying to put out there, that guys are gonna get open,” Solomon Tat said. “So, the first thing that we have to work on is shooting.”
