A handful of top rising senior quarterback prospects, including Butler (Matthews, N.C.) signal caller Christian LeMay, Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.) star Marquise Williams , Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) standout Lafonte Thourogood , were on hand at the Nike Camp in Blacksburg on May 8. Hampton’s (VA) David Watford , who boasts major FBS offers, participated as well and enjoyed competing with and against the other top signal callers.
“I feel like I stacked up really well and competed really well,” Watford said. “It was good to get out there and compete with other guys in the class and know what I have to work on. It felt good to compete. Football season doesn’t start until August, so this was the first big competition I’ve had in a while.”
The 6-1, 185-pound Watford, who threw for 1,538 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, felt “I showed my arm strength. I showed how quick of a release I have.”
In the one on one competitions in Blacksburg, Watford said, “I feel like I did pretty good. I could’ve done better, but overall I felt I did pretty good.”
