Matt Conrath is one Hoo moving to the interior of the defensive line this fall.
For the last couple of years, I have referred to UVa’s nose tackles as defensive tackles. While that change in my terminology was in part due to the fact that Virginia was using its nose tackles in more one-gap roles, and also was playing more 4-3, I think it also was due to the fact that I just relate better to the 4-3 defense and the use of tackles in that defense.
Now, however, there is no need for me to stretch. Now, we have defensive tackles. And somewhat surprisingly, given that UVa is switching defenses and has to find 4-3 defensive tackles when none were recruited, I think the Hoos will have some pretty good defensive tackles.
