Croce, Good Counsel Capture WCAC Title

Good Counsel (Olney, MD) crushed DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) last Sunday in the WCAC championship, earning its second consecutive WCAC title. Virginia-bound senior Vincent Croce was asked how the second championship felt as compared to the first.

“Exactly the same,” Croce replied. “The fashion we went about winning this one was nice, to beat them by 39 points when we suffered a loss to them earlier this season. There is also the sense of pride that my class is setting future teams up to build a dynasty here at Good Counsel.”

With the exception of all-star games such as the Maryland Crab Bowl and the Chesapeake Bowl, the 6-4, 265-pound defensive line prospect’s high school career is now complete. He reflects with pride on his development on and off the field over the course of the past four years.

“The whole process in my four years at Good Counsel, I’ve been learning more about the game, about life, and learning what I have to do to be successful,” Croce said. “I don’t think I’m ever going to stop that process.”

Last Sunday marked the end of a standout high school career, and now Croce looks forward to next year, when he’ll suit up for the Virginia Cavaliers. He’ll take a week or two off to recover from this season before hitting the weight room, but he plans to put in plenty of work to be ready for his first year in Charlottesville.

“That’s always something I dreamt about,” Croce said of playing college football as a freshman. “I made up a goal to get a college scholarship. That’s all in my hands. When I get my workout book after I sign, if I do what I’m told, train and workout like I need to, I think I’ll be ready by the start of next season.”

Firm in his college commitment, Croce keeps in consistent contact with primary recruiter Anthony Poindexter as well as other coaches such as defensive line coach Jeff Hanson. In fact, Croce spoke with both coaches on Monday night and will host both
