Lists his mother as the most influential person in his life: “The biggest lesson she has taught me that I’ll take with me to college is to stay focused,” Jones said. “Stay focused, and don’t get distracted by anything.”
Latest height and weight: 6-4, 250 pounds. “I was 240 pounds a month ago,” said Jones.
Jones’ added bulk has come through hard work. He is working with a trainer who apparently specializes in working football players, including ones in the NFL and in college. Jones, who is on a strict diet, works on strength Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and he does speed training exercises Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“I’ve been working with him for over a year. I just started working with him every day, because after my thumb injury last season I couldn’t really work out,” said Jones, who has cut out favorite foods such as fried chicken and burgers this offseason. “I’m a lot stronger and I’m a lot faster. I still have another two months before I’m supposed to be at UVa, so I’ll definitely be ready.”
Jones played through the thumb injury this past season, starting at defensive end and offensive tackle. He will suit up this preseason at defensive end, his dream position on the college level.
