Mizzell Down To Five

Taquan Mizzell

In a Taquan Mizzell announced that he has narrowed his list to five schools.

“Just cut my list again now to five… 1.UVA 2.WVA 3.Clemson 4. Notre Dame 5. Ohio State…ready to get this over with” – Mizzell wrote shortly after noon on Monday, July 9.

Mizzell, one of Virginia’s top remaining targets in the class of 2013, did not mention whether the list was in any particular order. My initial attempts to reach him have been unsuccessful so far, but he discusses his five favorites in this article on According to the article, a decision is likely to come on Tuesday, August 21.

I’m planning to reach “Smoke” for comments and a full article this week, but for now here is my take on the final five:

Clemson – Head coach Dabo Swinney, known for his recruiting skill when he was an assistant coach, has things rolling for the Tigers. Most notably, Clemson has pulled in 5-star defensive end Robert Nkemdiche and 4-star linebacker Dorian O’Daniel in its class of 2013, which is ranked no. 13 in the nation by Perhaps Clemson is a dark horse here, though right now I think the decision comes down to UVa and West Virginia.

Notre Dame – Of the final five, I believe Notre Dame has the lowest chance at landing Mizzell.

Ohio State – Mizzell’s versatile skills would seem to fit Urban Meyer’s offense very well. Ohio State obviously has an excellent football tradition, and Meyer is a proven success. The Buckeyes should not be ruled out in this race.

Virginia – Mizzell has been on Grounds numerous times, more than any other school. He has former Bayside teammates in Charlottesville. The offense is a good fit. And Mizzell
