One week after receiving some criticism for their pass coverage performance against Richmond, Virginia’s linebackers responded in a major way Saturday against Penn State. Starters Steve Greer , Henry Coley , and LaRoy Reynolds finished among the team’s top four tacklers in the 17-16 win. The unit also added pressure in the pass rush department and did a solid job in coverage too.
Coley posted 11 stops and Reynolds added 9. Greer, however, led the way with a stellar day. He had a career-high 15 tackles, eclipsing his previous best of 14 tackles in the 2009 Miami game. It’s the eighth time in his career that he reached double-digit territory. Greer now ranks 20th all-time at Virginia with 273 career tackles, surpassing Kai Parham’s 272 stops.
